Notices


■Eating and drinking in the libraries are prohibited except designated places.
■The Book Detection System (BDS) is installed at the entrance. If you have the borrowing without the procedure of lending, the alarm goes off when you exit.
※The alarm also reacts to metal which is include in umbrellas, key, and so on.
■If you are using an artificial cardiac pacemaker, please kindly inform the staff at the Service Desk before you enter the libraries.
■Please set your cellphones on silent mode, and please refrain from taking on it in the libraries.
■To prevent valuables from theft, don't forget to carry your umbrellas. A lot of people use the library materials over a long period of time, so please handle it carefully.
■If you break or lose, you have to recompense.

Entrance and Procedures

      

Entrance


Students and staff personnel of Akita University do not have any procedures to enter the libraries.

User Registration


You need to register as an user to use the library.

■Students (undergraduate students, postgraduate students, research students, non-degree students, etc.)
To register as a user, please apply for a My Library account. After that, your student card also can be used as an user card.

■Faculty members and staff personnel
Please fill in the user application form and hand in it to the staff in charge at the Service Desk. (Staff number is required.)

You can borrow materials with the user’s card, and you can also use the ”My Library” feature.

Special Use 


Special user can enter the library by using “the special user card” even if the library is closed.
Procedure for use: Fill in the Special use application form, and you would be issued “Special pass” at the library.

How to Borrow Materials


An Akita University Student Card or a User’s Card is necessary. Borrow materials by using ABC machine or at the Service Desk.

Automatic Book Circulation (ABC machine)
The ABC is the device that users can borrow or extend duration by themselves. (Only books)
To borrow journals or audiovisual materials (only allowed in the library), please ask the staff in charge at the Service Desk.

・During long-tern holidays like the university’s summer vacation, Akita university students are allowed to borrow materials over a longer duration. The borrowing limits and durations are shown on the library’s website.
・Students who are writing their graduation or master’s thesis are allowed to borrow materials for 1 month. (Only for the Central library) To do this, please inform the staff at the Service Desk.
・You can reserve materials that are being borrowed on the “My Library”system.
・You can extend your borrow for a maximum of 3 times if the materials aren’t reserved by another user. (You can also extend your borrow using the “My Library” system)

■Materials that cannot be borrowed.(Please use only in the library.)

Returning Books


Borrowed books can be retuned at the Retuning Counter. (Card is not required.)
When the library is closed, the book drop located by the front door of the library can be used to return books.
Please observe the return date. If you have an overdue book, a borrowing limit will be imposed.

Photocopy


Please use the photocopy machines in the library to photocopy materials.
There are photocopy machines that are funded or non-funded by the university.
Please fill out the photocopy application forms and only photocopy within the limits of the copyright law.
Photocopies are only allowed for research and study purposes and only one copy is allowed per person.
The library’s photocopy machines are only allowed to be used to photocopy library materials.
Photocopying documents that are not library material is not allowed.

Requesting Materials


You can request for books and materials that you think are necessary for your research and study field.
To do this, please (i) use the requesting feature available on the library’s website or, (ii) fill out the purchase request forms available beside the elevator and insert their into the request box.

Reference Service


The reference service is an assistance service provided by the library staff to assist you in looking for material necessary to write reports and theses.

There are 2 support desks in the Central Library, (i) the information support desk and (ii) the learning support desk.
■Information Support Desk : Library staff will assist you in using the library’s database and searching for specialized materials if you need to.
■Learning Support Desk : Student support staff will assist you in writing a report and using machinery. You can go to them for study advice.

Interlibrary Loan


Order a copy of the materials from the other libraries.


If Akita university library don't have materials what you want, you can order photocopies from other university libraries via Akita university library. You can apply from “request photocopy” button in My Library. The applicant will bear the postage and photocopy costs. Photocopy is fulfilled within the limits of the copyright law, and according to the rules of material’s owner libraries.

Request loan materials from the other libraries


You can borrow materials not available at Akita university library from other libraries. You can apply from “request loan” button in My Library.
You need to obey materials owner library rules about a way to use. To request loan materials from the outside library is allowed when material is not available at Akita university library.

 Free. Please fill out MEMO form with “Owned by Central Library (Medical Library)”.
 Akita Prefectural Library  Free. Please fill out MEMO form with "Owned by Akita prefectural library".
 University library etc  The applicant would bear the postage.

Using another university library


Depending on the situation, you need a letter of introduction for use the other university libraries. Please search for how to use that library, or ask at the Service Desk. We needs few days for a feasibility study or issue, so please consider a time to request a letter of introduction.

Using Library Facilities


Central Library


(1st Floor) The Commons : You can study with discuss as a group.


■Group Study Room
There are four rooms to study as a group. Capacity of each rooms and equipment are as follows. Each room can use wired LAN and wireless LAN. Also, we lend projector. Only Akita university student people can use, until two hours. To use each room, please reserve institution on homepage, and come to Service Desk on time.

■Study Single Room
There are 5 rooms to study and research. The capacity of room 1 and 2 is 4 people. The capacity of room 3, 4 and 5 is 1 person. You can use wired LAN / wireless LAN in rooms. Usage time is up to 2 hours. There rooms are only for campus users. If you want to use these rooms, please reserve institution on homepage, and come to the Service Desk

■Audiovisual Booth
Audiovisual booth is a booth for using audiovisual materials. The booth is for one person and only for campus users. Looking and listening video, CD or DVD, that is not library material, is not allowed. Please choose audiovisual material and come to the Service Desk with material. We do audiovisual materials “inside the library lend”, and lend the room’s key.

■Lounge
There are newly-arrived magazines, newspapers, and a TV which broadcast foreign language news. To watch TV with headphones, please borrow it from Service Desk. Lounge is permitted eating and drinking. Automats are located at the foot of the stairs.

(2nd Floor) Reading Room : 2nd floor is silent. Please refrain from talking except conference room and audiovisual room.

■Conference room
Conference room is furnished with presentation function. There is provided with projector, screen, whiteboard. Using PC in the 2nd floor is prohibited, but this room is permitted. Also you can use wired LAN in this room. Capacity is 24 people. Only campus users can use, until two hours. To use the room, please reserve institution on homepage, and come to Service Desk on time.  

■Audio visual room
In the room you can use audiovisual materials inside the library. Capacity is 6 people. Looking and listening video, CD or DVD, that is not library material, is not allowed. We do audiovisual materials “inside the library lend”, and lend the room’s key. Only Akita university student people can use, until two hours. If you would like to use each room, please reserve institution on homepage, and come to Service Desk on time.

(The Archives) Low frequently used books, textbooks and magazines are exists in the archives. To go in and out the archives room is freely. There are electric stacks, so please read the explanation in the archives.

Medical Library


(1st Floor) The Commons : In the commons, you can study with discussing in a group.


■Group Study Room
There are 2 rooms to study in a group. Each capacities and equipment are as given below. You can use cable LAN / wireless LAN in rooms. You can borrow a projector. Usage time is up to 2 hours. These rooms are only for campus users. If you want to use these rooms, please have a room reserved on HP, and come to the Service Desk.

■Study Single Room

■Conference Room
The Conference Room is free to do a layout. The capacity is 18 people. Usage time is up to 2 hours. These rooms are only for campus users. If you want to use these rooms, please have a room reserved on HP, and come to the Service Desk.

■Audiovisual Booth
There are 2 booths (for 1 person) to use audiovisual material in the library. Looking and listening video, CD or DVD, that is not library material, is not allowed. Please come to the Service Desk with a selected material and your student card / user’s card. We do audiovisual materials “inside the library lend”, and lend the room’s key. These booths are only for campus users.

■Browsing Corner
There are newspapers and general magazines in the browsing corner. You can eat and drink only here in the library.

(2nd Floor) Reading Room : 2nd Floor is a silent floor. Please refrain from talking.
